morgan forrest | L'anza-inspired style shoot

In September, my brother, Stephen & myself went down to Raleigh, North Carolina for a hair design class put on by L'anza, the hair color & product company our salon had recently converted over to. It was an outstanding demonstration & class for both furthering my understanding of their exceptional healing hair care line and for practical knowledge & inspiration that i was able to bring back to the salon with me. While we were in the first part of the class, watching the demonstration, we were given the current edition of the L'anza magazine in our info packet. The cover photo was this:

Cool, right?? I couldn't stop looking at it! Trying to figure out how the stylist kept it up, what products they used, how long the model's hair is without it styled. I come to find out later that the stylist leading the class, Matt Swinney (who is *truly* a hair g.e.n.i.u.s.!) was the stylist for the cover photo! I had the chance to talk to him about how he did it & how *keep* it in place for the whole shoot. Combining hair & photography is like the whole deal from start to finish for me & my ambitious mind, so i took that magazine cover home with me & started planning.

This shoot couldn't have gone any better! Morgan Forrest was Carter Hair Design's 1st model & she is now our apprentice! I used a L'anza red hair color cocktail to give her the bold red color & a lot of L'anza urban molding paste, tight gel, design FX, and of course, back combing! Here is my take on the femme faux hawk
